Program Description
Designed for professionals who are working in early child development
programs, this degree-completion program concentrates on the growth
and development of young children (0-5 year olds). Students learn
to apply developmental principles in the design, implementation, and
evaluation of programs for young children.
Curriculum
The ECD requirements include 120 hours with a minimum of 30 hours
from The University of Alabama. No more than 60 hours can be transferred
from a two-year institution. Through an articulation agreement, students
who hold an associate’s degree in Child Development from a community
college in Alabama will be allowed to transfer 24 hours of their CHD
work toward this degree. Eighteen hours will be accepted from the
community college as a minor in Family and Consumer Sciences in CHES
as follows:

In addition, the following six additional hours will be accepted into

Students will be required to complete any courses needed to satisfy
the core curriculum (available online) as well as 27 additional HDFS
hours, which will be a combination of videotape, videoconference,
online, and summer institutes courses as well as an internship:
